Our interview with Sarah Keizer.

Can you tell us something about your current role?

Sarah Keizer
Currently, I’m working for ING Group in Amsterdam as the Global Head of Organizational Development, and a.i. Head of Strategy & Analytics.

Over the past 5 years in my HR domain, we|have been working hard to keep employee engagement central to business strategy, strengthen our performance management and renew our strategic workforce planning approach.

What do you see as the major themes within HR at the moment?
ING Group is currently in the middle of a major transformation where we are separating ourselves into a standalone bank and a standalone insurance company. This means we have a lot of HR work to do. There are many themes we are working on simultaneously however, in my domain, two key focal points would be – strategic workforce planning and employee engagement.

Firstly, we have updated our Global HR strategy/structure and have created a separate Center of Expertise on Strategy & Analytics to assist HR and their business counterparts in making better people decisions through data, information and insights. Secondly, strengthening Employee Engagement remains a key priority throughout at ING as these are challenging times for the financial sector.

Despite our challenges we have good employee engagement and I believe we owe this to our view that engagement is a shared responsibility between leaders, managers and employees. Engagement is not an “HR thing” but HR should play an active role in facilitating and driving for change.

What can HR Executives Connected bring you?
This network enables me to hear about other sectors, other companies, and provides me with a sounding board for HR topics. So far, I have followed the conversations online and attended one conference call (about leadership in Asia) which was very useful! I especially like the fact that the group is kept small, with only a selected group of members so that we can get to know each other better than some of the other internet networking groups.
