Our interview with Sarah Keizer.

Can you tell us something about your current role?
Sarah Keizer
Currently, I’m working for ING Group in Amsterdam as the Global Head of Organizational Development, and a.i. Head of Strategy & Analytics.

Over the past 5 years in my HR domain, we|have been working hard to keep employee engagement central to business strategy, strengthen our performance management and renew our strategic workforce planning approach.

What do you see as the major themes within HR at the moment?
ING Group is currently in the middle of a major transformation where we are separating ourselves into a standalone bank and a standalone insurance company. This means we have a lot of HR work to do. There are many themes we are working on simultaneously however, in my domain, two key focal points would be – strategic workforce planning and employee engagement.

Firstly, we have updated our Global HR strategy/structure and have created a separate Center of Expertise on Strategy & Analytics to assist HR and their business counterparts in making better people decisions through data, information and insights. Secondly, strengthening Employee Engagement remains a key priority throughout at ING as these are challenging times for the financial sector.

Despite our challenges we have good employee engagement and I believe we owe this to our view that engagement is a shared responsibility between leaders, managers and employees. Engagement is not an “HR thing” but HR should play an active role in facilitating and driving for change.

What can HR Executives Connected bring you?
This network enables me to hear about other sectors, other companies, and provides me with a sounding board for HR topics. So far, I have followed the conversations online and attended one conference call (about leadership in Asia) which was very useful! I especially like the fact that the group is kept small, with only a selected group of members so that we can get to know each other better than some of the other internet networking groups.

HREC Event: Network Call with Lynda Gratton on the Future of Work

Dear all,

Our next HREC network call is planned for April 19 between 13:00 -14:30 hrs CET. I'm pleased to announce that for this call we will be joined by Lynda Gratton, Professor of Management Practice at London Business School and is the founder of the Hot Spots Movement.

Lynda Gratton has written seven books and numerous academic articles and is considered one of the world's authorities on people in organizations. In 2011 she has been ranked by The Times as one of the top 15 Business Thinkers in the world today and in 2008 The Financial Times selected her as the business thinker most likely to make a real difference over the next decade. She was also in the top two of the Human Resources Magazine's "HR Top 100: Most Influential" poll, and Lynda was number one of Human Resources Magazine's “Top 25 HR Most Influential UK Thinkers 2011” poll.

Lynda will talk to us about the Future of Work which covers a wide variety of topics such as the future of talent, place to work and many other topics such as diversity and work practices. So an opportunity you can't miss - and the great thing is, this is all free for you as HREC network member, you just need to dial in.

More details on how to dial in will follow early next week but please book some time in your agenda's already!

Kind regards,
On behalf of the Advisory Board

Letter from HREC: November 2012

Dear HR Executives Connected members,

I hope you enjoy this interactive site with great features such as a regular blog to which you can reply yourself, inspirational videos, the HREC featured member and many more!

If you have postings, a blog or relevant HR news yourself that you want to share please don’t hesitate and share it with me at stendert@krommendam.com. Remember that the forum is there for you to share, interact and network with more then 500 senior HR executives from across the globe!

First thing I’d like to hear from you is which topics would interest you for our upcoming group calls.
I’ve put together a few suggestions:
  • What does successful succession management looks like; the majority of companies do cover certain elements of succession planning but when is succession management really effective? What does success looks like and what are best some of the best practices across the globe?
  • HR leads business success through HR innovations – What is your HR innovation which did lead to direct business impact.
  • Building employee engagement through story telling – how can story telling be leveraged to build employee engagement.
  • HR vs the CEO – we often discuss the added value of HR and how we can contribute to the business we work for et al. It’s now time to close this discussion for once and for all – HR is a business in itself and therefore could also lead the way to business growth. In this call we’ll zoom in on how we can build this business case to the CEO.
  • HR 2030 – what are the main future HR trends and what will HR look like in 2030. Will we have small specialised HR departments where we rely on insourced HR services or are there other trends that will lead the way?
These are just some of the topics that I suggest but would like to get your feedback – give your opinion now and place a comment.

Stendert Krommendam
